Top 5 Best Places to Visit with Family in Kansas City

Kansas City is special for many reasons. It brings an immense amount of diversity, art, music, and delicious food! Making this city a wonderful melting pot for you to entertain your family in. Whether you are visiting or have lived here for years- here is a list of my top 5 favorite family-friendly spots to visit:

1) The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art- 

This architecturally marvelous art museum opened it’s doors to the public in December of 1933. It not only is a stunning building, but it houses some wonderful pieces of art as well. It has an extensive amount of art collected from nearly every continent and culture as well! This is a perfect place to visit for the artists in your family to enjoy. You will spend quite a bit of time here, as there are tons of beautiful art pieces to admire! Not only educational, but it will be interesting for every member of your family as well. They are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but are open Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday-Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Also, admission is free! You can’t beat a wonderful FREE experience. Go check this place out whenever you can!

2) The Kansas City Zoo- 

Founded in 1909, this 202 acre zoo houses over 1,300 animals! It has a 95 acre Africa exhibit and was also ranked in the top 10 in the nation for Australian animals and exhibits. General admission is $16.00-$18.00 and if you live in Jackson/Clay County the admission price is $8.00-$9.00. Children 2 and under are free! The zoo is closed on Mondays but are open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays. It is a beautiful zoo with a large collection of exotic animals! This is a perfect place to visit for those days where you just want to get out of the house and get to moving with your little ones. There’s plenty of fun things to see and do here, so keep this in mind for your next weekend adventure!

3) Science City at Union Station-

This fully interactive, family friendly science center is located in Union Station. So not only are you visiting here, but you are getting to see Union Station as well! Two wonderful spots in one location. They have more than 120 hands on displays to get your child’s mind engaged and have fun doing so! Admission prices are $14.00 per person and children 12 months and under are free. This is on my top must visits in Kansas City, especially with young kids! It makes for one cool weekend trip, but also teaches you all something simultaneously.

4) Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead- 

This farmstead is located in Overland Park, Kansas. Here you and your family can enjoy learning hands on about 250+ animals as well as plant life and vegetables! You can visit the petting zoo and have the chance to bottle feed baby goats too. Currently Deanna Rose is closed until further notice but they are eagerly anticipating the arrival of guests again this year! Admissions are very cheap at $3.00 per person all day. Admission is free for children under the age of two. This is a perfect way to enjoy your family with the beauty of nature too!

5) LEGOLAND-

Do you have a little builder in the family? Well if that’s the case, then you will be loved by them when you take him or her to LEGOLAND! They feature millions of LEGO bricks, more than 12 attractions and rides, as well as a two story LEGO experience. For only $19.95 per person you have a perfect day of play for the whole family to enjoy. You may never leave here though!
